Flying Branch
Flying branch offersdifferent career opportunities including Fighter pilots, Transport Pilots, Helicopter pilotsand more. You need to perform your duties both during peace and war. To get job in this branch, you need to have a graduate degree and pass through CDS exam (men) and AFCAT exam (men & women). Qualify NDA/NA exam after your 10+2 exam to get job in flying branch.
Technical Branch
Technical branch is further divided into mechanical and electronics. You can become aeronautical engineers in mechanical branch and aeronautical engineers in electronic branch. The engineers of mechanical branch are responsible for aircraft and its weapon system. They are involved in the operational readiness of aircrafts to deliver the maximum punch to the enemy when needed. Electronic branch engineers maintain sophisticated electronic networks of communications from land to air.
Many of the engineers of technical branch installs maintain and operate different electronic gadgets and high-level computers. You can get into this branch through AFCAT exam or through University Entry Scheme (UES).
Ground Duty Branch
Ground duty branch offers jobs in administration, accounts, logistics, education,meteorology. In such departments, you can work as internal auditors/work as air traffic controller or fighter controller. You can get jobs in this branch by qualifying AFCAT.
Jobs in these branches are available for individuals having 10+2 (Science) qualification with Physics and Math, graduation, after post-graduation and after engineering.
Salary & Allowances
Salary in Air Force is handsome. You can get good opportunity to earn during your last year of training and your monthly salary can be Rs. 21,000. The salary break-up of commissioned Indian Air Force officers (per month) include:
- Pay in Pay Band (same for flying, technical, ground duty) - Rs. 15,600
- Grade Pay - Rs. 5,400
- Military Service Pay - Rs. 6,000
- Dearness Allowance @ 107 percent - Rs. 28,890
- Kit Maintenance Allowance - Rs. 500
- Transport Allowance - Rs. 3,200 + DA or Rs. 1,600 + DA
Additional allowance
- Flying branch officers flying allowance: Rs. 11,250 per month
- Technical branch officers technical allowance: Rs. 2,500 per month
Overall monthly pay package of the officerincludes:
Flying branch: Rs. 74,264
Technical branch: Rs. 65,514
Ground duty branch: Rs. 63,014
