Archaeology is the study of the history of humans through the process of excavation and analysis. A Masters of Archaeology is a 2-year postgraduate degree course. The course is meant to train a person in recovering, analyzing, and interpreting the archaeological material in the right context. The degree requires a lot of patience and dedication from a person. A person would need to spend an unlimited amount of time on the field looking for archaeologically significant material, digging and analyzing it. But if a person succeeds in giving what it takes to complete the degree, career opportunities are very bright.
If you are studying archaeology in any Indian Institute, you would primarily learn the following:
A person who has successfully completed his M.A in Archaeology can work as a Heritage Manager or Heritage Conservationist in Central or State Govt. You can also work as a Museum or Tourist Guide. Working as a documentation specialist in a govt. or private organization can also be an option. Apart from that, you can become an Archivist or an Information Manager or a Historical Interpreter, or a Library System Analyst. If you are interested in history, you can become a historian too. Additionally, you can become a lecturer or an assistant professor after qualifying NET/SET exam.
