M. D. Physiology or Doctor of Medicine in Physiology is a three-year post-graduate course in Physiology which deals in the science of mechanical, physical, and biochemical functions relating to the human body, their organs, and cell compositions. This course is very closely related to Anatomy, where Anatomy is the study of form while Physiology is the study of function. This close connectivity between Anatomy and Physiology makes the two forms of scientific study very intrinsically linked and it is often seen that students take up these courses in tandem as part of a medical curriculum. Hence this program is highly rewarding on successful completion.
A candidate who wants to enroll for a course in M.D. Physiology should have cleared his M.B.B.S degree with a minimum of 55% score marks. He should also be prepared for a post-graduate medical entrance examination conducted at the time of admission by universities/colleges offering this course. This course teaches students about the vital functions of an organism including its growth and development, the processing of nutrients after its absorption, the synthesis and distribution of proteins and other organic molecules within it. It further includes a detailed study of the functions of various tissues, organs, and other anatomic structures. This course also highlights the study of normal mechanical, physical and biochemical processes of animals and plants. Candidates should also possess analytical and problem-solving skills, develop hypotheses, design experiments, identify, organize and communicate information and data through the use of spreadsheets, databases, and presentation packages.
Q: What is M.D in Physiology?
Physiology is the science of the mechanical, physical, and biochemical functions of humans, their organs, and the cells of which they are composed. The course is related to anatomy; anatomy is the study of form, and physiology is the study of function. Due to the frequent connection between form and function, physiology and anatomy are intrinsically linked and are studied in tandem as part of a medical curriculum.
