The Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) is one of the most reputable universities of India that is located in New Delhi. It was established in the year 1998 and is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
The GGSIPU operates as a teaching as well as an affiliating university. It offers myriad courses in the fields of Architecture, Pharmacy, Technology, Engineering, Physiotherapy, Medicine, Management, Law, Mass Communication, Education, Nursing, Journalism and many others.
It takes in students on the basis of the cumulative results of the various entrance exams it conducts for its different courses and the remaining selection procedure that follows the exam.
The Bachelor of Hotel Management and Catering Technology (BHMCT) is a course that has been tailor- made for those who wish to make a career in Hotel Management or the Catering Business or both. It provides a strong base to such aspirants by providing them with the set of skills and the knowledge required in this profession.
The GGSIPU conducts an entrance exam for students who wish to take up the Bachelor of Hotel Management and Catering Technology (BHMCT) course in the university. The exam is referred to as the GGSIPU CET for BHMCT, i.e., the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) Common Entrance Test (CET) for a course in Bachelor of Hotel Management and Catering Technology (BHMCT).
The test is usually scheduled to be taken on the first Sunday of the month of June each year and the announcement for filling up the application forms for the same is usually made in the month of February.
A ‘Cut- off’ for the entrance exam is decided upon each year. It is based on the number of people taking the exam, the level of difficulty of the same, etc. Those who score above the cut-off in the test are called for further testing to the university.
The eligibility criteria for this test include following - the student must have completed class 12 before taking the exam. Any particular stream need not be taken at the class 12 levels to render one eligible to sit for the exam. One’s concentration could be Science or Commerce or Arts.
Secondly and most importantly, the percentage of marks obtained by the applicant in their class 12 level Board exams must be equal to or greater than 50 perent. In case one has taken up Science at the class 12 levels with Mathematics as the concentration, their aggregate of the marks obtained in Physics, Chemistry and Math at the class 12 levels board exams must be 55 percent at the least. They should also have passed separately in English.
Lastly, the person applying must not be above 21 years of age while applying for the Common Entrance Exam CET (GGSIPU) for BHMCT.

The syllabus of the exam for BHMCT is fairly simple. It includes basic Aptitude- both Quantitative and Analytical- questions, a General Knowledge and Current Affairs section and questions to test the understanding of English and the Verbal Ability and reading compression of the test- takers. It also includes a section on Logical Reasoning.
