Law Entrance Exam

Law entrance exams are held by individual institutes and universities and also on an all India basis for providing admission into various law colleges and universities.

In India, legal education is looked after by the Bar Council of India. This council has set high standards for the methods of teaching, practical programs on providing skills and training. Among the various law entrance exams, the most important are LAWCET, CLAT and AILET.

Eligibility

Students must have completed 10+2 stream from a recognized college or board. Candidates age should not be beyond 20 years and in the case of ST/SC/OBC/handicapped, not more than 22 years.

Exam Pattern

All questions are objective based. Questions pertaining to various subjects like science, history and law may be asked in the entrance exam.

The question paper is set to test the skill of the candidates in fields of general awareness, reasoning, numerical aptitude, legal aptitude and political science.

Based on the marks in the entrance exam, candidates are shortlisted.

CLAT

The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is conducted on an All India basis every year by various National Law schools on a rotation basis. Candidates who want to pursue LLB and LLM courses have to appear for this entrance exam.

This exam does not have any negative marking. Previous question papers of CLAT can be collected from the 14 National Law universities by paying a sum of Rs100/-

By appearing for CLAT, students will get a chance to procure admission in any of the 14 Indian National Colleges.

AILET

The All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) is held every year to give admission to eligible candidates for joining in the undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Law by National Law University (NLU), Delhi. The varsity was established in 2008.

The AILET comprises of 150 multiple choice questions which are objective. The duration of the exam is one and half hours. The question paper contains questions related to General Knowledge, English, Reasoning, Legal aptitude and Mathematics.

Every year usually the exam is conducted in the month of May. This exam is held in around 15 centres at various locations in India.
