Banking Entrance Tests/Exams

Banking jobs are one of the most sought after careers in India. Along with nationalized banks, several private banks have set up their offices in several locations across India. Because of job security and good remuneration, bank jobs are popular among the youth. There has been a growing demand for qualified and skilled professionals in the banking sector. Frequent recruitments have been taking place after the revival of economy in the last few years in various public and private sector banks. It is estimated that there will be few thousands of vacancies in the coming years.

There is a Common Written Examination (CWE) organized by the IBPS (Institute of Banking Personnel Selection). Usually every year there are four types of CWE which are conducted by IBPS for the posts of Clerical Cadre, Specialist officers, Probationary officers and Regional Rural Bank staff. Lot of students appear for these competitive exams and try their luck each year.

Eligibility for Clerical Cadre

The candidate has to be a graduate and the minimum age limit is 20 years.

Exam Pattern

From this year onwards for the CWE clerical cadre,, there will be 200 questions which include five different sections like Quantitative Aptitude, English Computer, Reasoning and General Awareness. The time limit fixed for this exam is two hours. There is also a descriptive section. There is negative marking for all the objective questions. Candidates should be careful in answering these questions.

For Bank Probationary Officers entrance exam, the level of difficulty will be usually high. IBPS organizes the CWE for the post of Probationary Officers in 19 public sector banks.

Eligibility for Probationary Officer

Candidate has to be a graduate in any discipline. The minimum age limit is 20 years and the maximum age limit is 30 years.

Exam Pattern

Total marks of the examination paper are 250 marks and the time allotted is three and half hours. Different sections covered in the exam are English language (50 questions), Reasoning (50 questions), General Awareness (50 questions), Quantitative Aptitude (50 questions), Computer (50 questions). There is also a descriptive section in which the candidate has to answer an essay or Precis, or letter writing. There is negative marking for wrong answers. Hence candidates have to be careful in answering the questions.

Nowadays there are several institutes which are dedicated to teach various subjects related to the Common Written Examination. Online classes are also available and candidates who are busy and cannot devote time can enroll for online classes as well. A lot many books on quantitative aptitude, reasoning and general awareness are available in the market. Candidates appearing for the exam should collect suitable study material so that they can prepare well for the entrance exam.
