Sainik School Kodagu is the twenty second Sainik School in the country and the second in the state of Karnataka. It was established on 18th October 2007. The school comes under the purview of Karnataka State Government and Ministry of Defence, Govt of India and is administered by a Local Board of Administrators. The school trains its boys in overall development while providing quality education and creating a consciousness of national integration.
The school has been set up in a picturesque location surrounded by hills, spread over an area over 60 acres. The idea of establishing a Sainik school in the land of Kodagu was that Kodagu has contributed brave soldiers to the Armed Forces many of whom rose to the rank of Brigadiers, Generals and even India’s Field Marshal. Field Marshal KM Cariappa and General KS Thimmaiah both legends in their own rights belong to Kodagu. The School is located at Kudige, approximately 6 Kms from Kushalnagar. The land area of the school is 66 acres. The present strength of the school is 500 boarders.
As part of the infrastructure, the school presently has an Academic Block with spacious class rooms, laboratories for Biology, Computer Science, Chemistry, English communication, Mathematics. The cadets have a spacious Mess, which can accommodate up to a thousand at a time. The school has two football fields, three basket ball courts and two volley ball courts. The school has also recently acquired equestrian club. Swimming Pool, full-fledged gymnasium, indoor games arena and athletic filed works are under progress. In addition the school has an Administrative Block, Dormitories with Study Halls. All dormitories have solar heaters. There is dedicated washing and ironing plant for cadets.
Col Amar Jeet Singh assumed the charge of Principal, Sainik School Kodagu on 1 Sep 2023. He was commissioned into the Army Educational Corps in June 2005. The officer was attached to the infantry in the Uri sector at Line of Control (LOC) from June 2005 to June 2007. The Officer is joining Sainik School Kodagu after completing 2 years tenure at Prestigious NDA, Khadakwasla.
Col Amar Jeet Singh has a vast instructional and staff experience during his service. The Officer has been a Class A/B Instructor at IMA, Dehradun, OTA, Chennai and NDA, Khadakwasla. The officer is interpretership level qualified in the Chinese language. He has a 8 years of hands-on experience in matters related to the Chinese language and the Chinese Army (Peoples Liberation Army). The Officer has been instrumental in conducting a large number of Border Personnel Meetings (BPMs) as an interpreter with the Chinese Army on Indo Indo-China border in North Sikkim.
He was the first Army Educational Corps Officer to be posted as GSO-1 (China) in the operational Branch of the Army Training Command, Shimla. The Officer has been responsible in producing many cogent military service papers on the Chinese Army.
He has been awarded two Army Commanders Commendation Cards in the years 2008 and 2020 respectively. The Army Cdr Northern Command Commendation Card was awarded to the officer for operational achievements during his Infantry attachment. The Army Commander, Army Training Command Commendation was awarded to the officer for his contribution on Chinese matters. The Officer has done exceedingly well in the career courses including Junior Officers course and Chinese language course at Army Educational Corps Training College and Centre, Pachmarhi.
Col Amar Jeet is married to Ms Divya A Singh, who is currently a housewife. The officer is blessed with two daughters. The elder daughter Ms Aaliya Singh is pursuing a Bachelor in Liberal Arts in Christ University, Bangalore and the younger daughter Ms Aayat Singh is a toddler.
