<p>Speaking at the presentation ceremony of the Loksatta Tarun Tejankit Awards, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that India's intellectual capacity, innovation and policy consistency will drive the global energy transition and contribute to building a new energy future.</p> <p>The education minister further said that even though India imports energy at present, it will soon become self-sufficient in the energy sector in the coming years.<br /><br />The minister further added that sustainable green energy sources like solar energy, bio-energy and hydrogen energy, are also being explored by India.<br /><br /></p> <h3><strong>OPPORTUNITIES IN 21ST CENTURY</strong></h3> <p>The education minister further stressed how India's knowledge benefitted the world and that the knowledge exchange is a two-way street.</p> <p>Replying to a question concerning brain drain, he went on to say that the brain drain scenario needs to be transformed into a brain bank scenario while making India a knowledge repository.</p> <p>"The 21st century poses a great opportunity for India. The purchasing power of the country has increased and consequently we are going to have larger markets in the country itself," he said.</p> <p>He further said that this will motivate innovators to stay in India while exploring Indian markets.</p> <h3><strong>EFFORTS TO CREATE MORE HIGHER EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES</strong></h3> <p>The Education Minister also explained attempts to expand higher education possibilities in India, educational reforms, integrating education and jobs, and attaining long-term goals of making education more accessible, inclusive, and egalitarian.</p> <h3><strong>STUDENTS SEEKING HIGHER EDUCATION IN INDIA TO RISE</strong></h3> <p>When facing questions regarding students opting to study abroad for higher studies, the minister said that the total number of students who opt for studying within the country is 4 crores.</p> <p>"In the next ten years, this number is going to increase to 10 crores. We are working to become self-sufficient in this area as well. In the near future, we will have to make enough facilities to educate our Indian students in the country itself," he added.</p> <h3><strong>NEP FOCUSES ON SKILL DEVELOPMENT AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP</strong></h3> <p>The minister further said that the National Education Policy focuses on skill development and entrepreneurship while adding that India's education system should not be focussed on degrees or placement.<br /><br />Source: India Today</p>
