• CMJ University

CMJ University was established in the year 2009 by an Act of Meghalaya State Legislature under the CMJ University, Act, 2009 ( Act 4 of 2009 ) vide Notification No. LL (B) 42/09/80 dated 20th July 2009. The CMJ University is notified by UGC (Ministry of HRD, Government of India). New Delhi as state private University under section 2(f) and empowered to award Diploma, Bachelor, Master, and Doctorate.

CMJ University is a legitimate university set up under the State Act, and the degrees offered by this university are recognized for Government jobs all over India.

Mahatma Gandhi University (M.G.U) was established through Meghalaya State legislative Act, 2010 (Meghalaya Act No.6 of 2011), published in the Gazette of Meghalaya vide No.LL (B).138/2010/41. The Promoting body of MGU has vast experience in the field of Education. The main objective of MGU is to provide the best quality education to its students. MGU is empowered to award degrees as specified by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 22 of the UGC Act 1956.

• Martin Luther Christian University

Martin Luther Christian University was established in July 2005. The university is named after Martin Luther (1483–1546), the father of reformation. MLCU is the first Christian University in India, that doesn't focus on theological training after more than two centuries of Christian education in the country. In a short span of years, the University has carved a niche for itself in the country for its commitment to providing quality learning and offering a conducive environment for quality academic pursuits. The creation and functioning of the university are in accordance with the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 under Section 2(f).

• Techno Global University

Techno Global University (TGU) was established in the year 2008 by the Meghalaya State legislative Act, 2008. It is a private university located in Shillong, Meghalaya. The university is also recognized by UGC. Techno Global University is a large lush-green campus equipped with all the facilities needed for the students. Techno Global University offers postgraduate courses including M.Phil and Ph.D. programs in various academic disciplines i.e. Arts, Humanities, Science, Social Sciences, Commerce, Education, Engineering, Management, Computer Applications, Pharmacy, Allied Health Sciences, Journalism & Mass Communications, and other relevant subjects. TGU is associated with two foreign universities Colorado Heights University and Northwestern Polytechnic.

• The Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts of India University

The Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts of India University, Meghalaya was established under the provisions of the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts of India University Act, 2005 (Meghalaya Act No. 12 of 2005) vide Notification No. EDN. 261/2004/124 dated 22.02.2006 of the Government of Meghalaya. The University is sponsored by the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts of India, a non - profit Educational Society established in 1984 under the Andhra Pradesh (Telangana Area) Public Societies Registration Act, 1350F (Act of 1350F).

• University of Science & Technology

The University has been established under the provisions of the University of Science and Technology,  Meghalaya Act (No.6 of 2008) enacted by Legislative Assembly of Meghalaya and notified vide Gazette Notification No LL(B)87/2008/21, dated 02.12.2008 of Government of Meghalaya. The University is empowered by the University Grants Commission, to award degrees as specified by the UGC under section 22 of the UGC Act, 1956. USTM has also received the necessary approval from AICTE, New Delhi; NCTE, ERC, Bhubaneswar, Pharmacy Council of India to run MBA, B.Ed. & B. Pharm courses respectively.

• University of Technology & Management

MIT University, Meghalaya (formerly known as University of Technology and Management, Shillong) is a state private university established in 2011, in accordance with Section 3 of the UGC Act. The university is located in Shillong, the state capital of Meghalaya, within the union of India. It is the first Indian university to introduce cloud computing engineering as a field of study, in collaboration with IBM.

MIT University, Meghalaya is part of the MIT Group of Institutions.

• William Carey University

William Carey University is located in Shillong in Meghalaya, India. It is named after the noted Baptist missionary William Carey.
