Engineering is a vast field comprising of several branches related to technical subjects. Mechanical, electrical, chemical, aeronautical, computer, architectural and civil engineering are the important branches in engineering. It is a four year regular full time course.
Students have to complete 10+2 stream with good percentage of marks from a recognized board or university. Students will have to appear for an entrance exam like AIEEE or IIT JEE and other state board exams. Good score in the exam is needed for seeking admission in top graded colleges and universities.
Depending on the branch of engineering the student has chosen, subjects are taught accordingly. First year of engineering is common to all branches where in common engineering subjects like mathematics, applied sciences, physics, professional communication and chemistry are taught. From second year onwards specialized subjects related to the subject are taught. Practical classes are also conducted so that the student gets exposure to various working aspects in engineering.
Engineering is a lucrative profession. All categories of engineers are well sought after in the industry. Openings are vast in mechanical, civil, software, chemical and electronics field. Job opportunities exist in public and private enterprises like corporate offices, software companies, construction companies, manufacturing plants and other related fields.
Students who are interested in entrepreneurship can set up independent consultancies or firms. They can pursue higher degrees like M.Tech and Ph.D as well and aspire to become lecturers and professors in the related field.
