About Calcutta International School

CIS is a well established, reputed, co-educational, international school situated at Kolkata serving both local and expatriate communities.

Link on advantageous location: CIS is advantageously located at 15 min from airport and Salt Lake and only 10 min from Peerless Hospital and only 2 min from Ruby General Hospital.

CIS prides itself on its warmth and welcoming nature; cosmopolitan culture; open attitude towards students, teachers and parents; safe & secure environment; well trained teachers; modern infrastructure; small class strengths; low student - teacher ratio and global curriculum.

CIS believes that the primary purpose of a school is to guide the child in the discovery of themselves and their world.... to identify and nurture their talents. Just as every seed contains the future tree, each child is born with infinite potential. CIS sees children as seeds to be nurtured - here the teacher is a gardener who helps to bring out the potential already present in the child. CIS is the best possible environment for children to grow, to blossom and to evolve.

Admission Procedure

Admission to CIS is open to all students, whether a foreign national or one of Indian nationality. As CIS maintains a very good teacher to student ratio (approximately 1:10, one of the best in the world), class sizes are restricted. Preference is given to expatriates, foreign passport holders, and non-resident Indians, in that order.

Our academic year is from June to May. The threshold admissions are at the Pre-Nursery Class eligible for three-year olds. To maintain the unique character of CIS, certain numbers of seats are kept reserved for admissions to various classes throughout the year.

Application forms can be obtained from the school office on any weekday between 8.30 a.m. and 5.00 a.m. and on Saturdays between 9.00 a.m. and 1 .00 p. m. Intending g applicants will then have to register by paying a fee. Short- listed candidates and parents / guardians are called for discussion and appraisal. For senior classes, candidates are required to take an entrance test before admission is granted.

Many students from other schools join CIS at the 'A' Levels for obtaining British school leaving certificate, which is very helpful for their higher studies abroad.

For admissions to 'A' Levels, a 'cut-off' mark is decided every year depending on the general performance of Class 10/'0' Level students, and the availability of seats. This is followed by the usual entrance test and interview.
