After Anna University and Puducherry University, Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN) has cancelled their annual examination due to Cyclone Gaja. The exams were scheduled to begin from November 15. CUTN will announce fresh dates soon. In a statement, CUTN has announced, “All Faculty and Non-Teaching Staff are hereby to keep maximum vigil over the situation. Chief Wardens and Wardens are instructed to monitor the students activity in and around and ensure comfortable and secure stay of the students.”
Pondicherry University
On November 14, Pondicherry University has also cancelled the exams at all the centres at including, Karaikal, Mahe, Yanam and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Anna University
Anna University had this week released a notification regarding the cancellation of all examinations for various department scheduled to be conducted on November 15, 2018. As per reports, the examinations scheduled for the affiliated colleges of Anna University in Chennai have been postponed and will be held on December 13, 2018.
However, all the exams that were listed for the University Departments (College of Engineering, Guindy, Alagappa College of Technology, Madras Institute of Technology and School of Architecture and Planning) will be conducted as scheduled.
Bharathidasan University
Bharathidasan University had scheduled the semester examinations from Friday, November 16 onwards.
The local administrations in various districts of Tamil Nadu including Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Ramanathapuram, Pudukottai, Tiruvarur, Puducherry and Karaikal have already declared holidays for schools and colleges.
As per PTI, the severe cyclonic storm ‘Gaja’ crossed the Tamil Nadu coast between Nagapattinam and Vedaranniyam early Friday morning. The storm is likely to move nearly westwards and weaken gradually into a cyclonic storm during the next three hours, the latest bulletin released by IMD stated.
As many as 81,948 people were evacuated from low lying areas and sheltered at over 471 relief centres in six districts including Nagapattinam, Pudukottai, Ramanathapuram and Tiruvarur, PTI reported.
