Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) president Ankiv Baisoya, who Thursday tendered his resignation from the post to the Vice-Chancellor, has now had his admission at DU’s Buddhist Studies Department cancelled, The Indian Express has learnt.
The decision was taken on Wednesday after Thiruvalluvar University (TU) sent a written note to DU confirming that Baisoya’s marksheet pertaining to his graduation was fake, sources said.
Meanwhile, DUSU secretary Akash Choudhary from the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) Friday submitted a memorandum to the vice-chancellor, calling for fresh elections.
In response to the application sent by Buddhist Department HoD K T S Sarao, asking for verification of Baisoya’s documents, TU Controller of Examination B Senthilkumar wrote in a letter dated November 13: “With reference to the above, it is informed that the copy of the certificate of the following candidate has been verified and found that the said certificate is not genuine. It is a fake certificate.”
While Sarao remained unavailable for comment on account of being out of town, a DU official said, “Baisoya’s admission was cancelled on November 14 as soon as the letter was received, in a meeting of the admission committee, and all authorities concerned, including the police, were informed of the same.”
Additional DCP (North) Harendra Singh confirmed receiving communication. “He (Sarao) has written a letter to the Registrar about the cancellation of admission. A copy of this has been given to the SHO. We have written to the Registrar. If any communication is made by any authority, we may take legal action,” he said.
Congress president Rahul Gandhi also tweeted on the matter, and took a dig at the Prime Minister. Playing on the term ‘surgical strike’, Rahul said what was happening in DU was a ‘farzical strike’. Farzi in Urdu means fake.
ABVP had on Thursday suspended Baisoya from the organisation, and asked him to step down from his post.
Baisoya and DU Registrar Tarun Kumar Das did not respond to calls and texts by The Indian Express. Baisoya had called allegations against him “baseless”.
