Railway Minister, Mr. Piyush Goyal, said "India's first National Rail and Transportation University to transform Indian railway and transport sector for a New India." He informs that Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi’s cabinet gives the nod to set up the NRTU in Vadodara, Gujarat which is pending for the last 3 years.
To manage the company of the proposed university, a not for profit company under section 8 of the Companies Act, 2013 will be created by the ministry of the railways. This not for profit company will provide the financial and the infrastructural aid to the university. It will also appoint the chancellor as well as the pro-chancellor of the university.
As reported to the Indian Express, the university will have its first batch of the students in June next year.
The official report said that the management board consisting of the academics and the professionals shall be independent of the managing company and has the full power to perform their duties (academic and administrative) without any interruption.
Mr. Modi, Prime Minister, India, decided to start the first rail university. In the year 2014, he had announced that there was the need of the rail university for the modernization and the research on the country’s archaic railway system. In the same year, it was included in the railway budget also.
Later in the year 2016, he announced to start the university on the NAIR campus, Vadodara.
As per the PIB report, this university will create the pool of the opportunities and leverage the state-of-the-art technology. The use of the latest pedagogy and latest technology like artificial intelligence, satellite-based tracking, radio frequency identification will provide the best services and the best safety to the people. The proposed university will be fully funded by the ministry of the railways and will have the capacity to have 3000 full-time students.
The national academy for the Indian railways (NAIR) says that “Existing land and infrastructure at National Academy of Indian Railways (NAIR) at Vadodara, Gujarat, will be utilized, and suitably modified and modernized for the purpose of the university.”
