This institution was established to perpetuate the enduring memory of Sree Narayana Guru, a great Saint, Philosopher and Social Reformer who was also a great poet and an erudite scholar of the Vedas. He preached and practiced the gospel of ‘Universal Brotherhood’ as embodied in his maxim ‘One caste one Religion, one God for man’. He advised the down–trodden to gain education to achieve liberation from superstition and the shackles of oppression at the hands of the caste despots during that time. Inspired by the Guru’s teachings, the followers of Sree Narayana at Chetrappinni formed a Public Charitable Trust in 1977, which established the S.N.Vidya Bhavan in July 1978 with LKG and UKG classes, initially.
