About

Methodist High School was established in Kanpur, India in 1876 by Miss Isabella Thoburn, a Christian Missionary Educationist from the U.S.A., who felt the need for an education for girls and women in the city of Kanpur. Her school was called "The Girls High School" and was situated in the North West Tannery Bungalow in Civil Lines, on the banks of the river Ganges. The school was shifted to the present premises in 1889 The school had a change in name in 1895. "The Girls High School" became "The Methodist High School". Soon, the Middle and the Left Wings were constructed and by 1912, the Right Wing was ready for occupation.

Miss Thoburn died in 1901 but her good work was carried on by the dedicated missionaries to India who came from the Methodist Church in America. The school grew in numbers in staff and students and the buildings multiplied as the need arose. It has a large compound with four buildings: Elementary school (Nursery and KG), Primary School (I to V) and Senior School (VI to XII). The buildings are all brick and the Senior School has a distinct British Raj architecture with open verandahs and arches. Today, we have the Evelyn Strader Block, a mammoth project that was a Quasqicentennial gift to the school, under the Principalship of the dynamic lady, Mrs. Helen Brown.

Admission Procedure

Registration Forms are to be filled in and submitted to the School Office before the end of the registration period.
The official Application Form must be completed with the relevant details. However, Methodist High School does not guarantee a seat reservation.
The Principal reserves the right to accept or reject any application for admission without assigning any reason.
For a child who has been to school previously and is attending this school for the first time, a Transfer Certificate from the previous School must be furnished before joining the School.
For those coming from outside Uttar Pradesh, the Transfer Certificate must be countersigned by the appropriate education authority of the State concerned.
Since no change can be made in the age once it is entered in the Admission Register, a certified copy of the Birth Certificate is also to be submitted in each case.
The date of birth once entered in the Admission Register will NOT be altered under any circumstances. On withdrawal, a Transfer Certificate will be issued if due notice has been given and all fees have been paid according to the school rules.
Admissions, where vacancies exist, are made on the basis of an entrance examination/interview.
Those children who are registered will be notified of the date of the examination. After examining the child, the Principal reserves the right to admit the child into the class deemed suitable for him/her.
Children of the Defense services Personnel, MHS Staff, Brother/Sister, Christian, Govt. Official Transfer cases, Single Parent and other regardless might be given preference in admission on merit basis if vacancy exists.
