The Gujarati medium school was founded to fulfill the then new migrant families from Gujarat who had come to Bengal. In 1945 Shri Himchandbhai Shah, Saudamanibhan and some well wishers of the Gujarati community opened a Montessori School with a vision to provide quality education to the children of the Gujarati Community.

On 31st August 1945 the school was registered under the society's registration Act. 1860 as “Shree Bhawanipur Gujarati Balmandir”. The managing committee by constitution is a ladies forum. It is the selfless service by the honorable members of the Gujarati Community of Kolkata over last 60 years, that has been contributed to the development of Shree Bhawanipur Gujarati Balmandir. The school has been silently serving the noble cause of providing vital education and moral foundation to our children.

While fostering motherly care to the students, the Institution grew from a very modest beginning made in the pre Independent India into a well formed Montessori, Primary School and keeping pace always with changing time and Technology.

Society has valued the significant contribution of Balmandir and has always come forward with meaningful participation.

Laboratories
The school has well-equipped laboratories for Science with instruments, specimens and samples to facilitate learning for all classes.

Computer Lab & Resource Centre
The school has two Computer laboratories equipped with adequate computers for the students to have a hands-on experience. The students have access to the Internet under the guidance of experienced teachers.

The Computer lab is provided with Educational CDs for Teachers reference and Interactive sessions for Computer Aided Education.
