Fashion designing

Fashion designing is a lucrative career which can be studied at under graduation level and as a diploma after 10+2. Fashion designing is associated with designing apparel, clothing and lifestyle accessories. It is a highly creative profession and the person needs to be extremely creative in thinking about new designs and patterns.

Production Engineering principles are applied in joining processes, casting, die and mould design, CADD/CAM, automation, Inventory control, Operation Research, Mechatronics, Supply chain Management and robotics. With the emergence of latest production methods and control systems, demand for Production Engineers is increasing.

Country's premium fashion designing institute National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) offers degree cum diploma in fashion design and information technology. The duration of this degree course is three and a half years.

Eligibility

Candidate must have passed 10+2 stream with good marks from a recognized board or university. Students have to appear for a common entrance test conducted b NIFT. Good score in the exam is required for seeking admission into the course.

Course Content

Subjects like Fashion Design, Knitwear Design and Technology, Leather Apparel Design and Technology, Garment manufacturing Technology, Fashion communication, Textile Design and Development and Accessory design are few important subjects covered during the course.

At the end of the course students have to work on a project for the stipulated time.

Scope

Qualified Fashion designers are always in demand in apparel industry. Several premium brands employ fashion designers in their panel for creating new designs. After getting work experience students can set up their own fashion consultancy and a boutique. Talented fashion designers are well paid in the industry. There is ample scope to work in fashion media and communications as well.
