Civil engineering is a specialized and broadest branch in engineering field. Civil engineers play an important role in the construction and maintenance of buildings and structures. They are involved in the planning of the structures as well. It is a full time four year course.
Students must have completed 10+ 2 stream with good percentage of marks from a reputed board or university. They have to write a common entrance test like AIEEE and other state government entrance examination. Good score in the entrance exam is needed for procuring admission in a reputed college or university.
Introduction to engineering, computer science, statistics, solid mechanics, dynamics, materials science, structural analysis, fluid mechanics, soil mechanics, water resource engineering, technical writing and structural design are few of the subjects taught during the course. Practical knowledge is imparted to the students through laboratory experiments.
Civil engineers play an important role in the society. Several state and central government offices recruit civil engineers for all major construction works. Private firms also employ civil engineers in the construction works. They can join armed forces as a graduate engineer.
