This institute is proud to be the 1st institute to offer a BDS degree course in country, recognized by DCI. As on today, our academic activities include yearly intake capacity of 100 students for BDS, 50 for MDS admissions and 10 each for Dental Hygienists and Dental Mechanics as recognized by Dental Council of India.

In addition, Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics is a DCI-IGNOU recognized center to run a post graduate certificate course in Endodontics. Most importantly, our students are blessed with a large number of patients which is in the range of 200-300 OPD and 1000-1500 patients which are treated for various maladies on a daily basis.

• Government Dental College and Hospital, Mumbai is one of the oldest, pioneering institute in the country known for its comprehensive dental education and care was established in 1938 and was then known as Sir CEM Dental College. It was housed on the 1st floor of Grant medical college, Sir J J group of hospitals, Byculla, Mumbai with just 6 dental chair units and gave the quot;Licence in Dental Science LDScquot; degree.

Thanks to Dr. K. L. Shourie for his vision and determination for selecting this prime spot as a location for a dental college. The college is well connected being located right besides Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus railway station and architecturing the 3 storey building, excluding basement in such a way that it served as a role model for the Dental Council of India in laying down the guidelines for all the dental institutes in the country. This institute has always provided skilled manpower to serve the people of our country and abroad.

• Our institute is recognised by Dental Council of India and affiliated to Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik. As on today our annual intake capacity include 100 students for undergraduate studies, 12 – 15 students for post graduate studies In 5 specialities viz, Dept. of Oral Diagnosis and Radiology, Dept. of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, Dept. of Periodontics, Dept. of Oral pathology and microbiology and, Dept. of Prosthodontics, 10 students each for Degree of Dental mechanics and Dental Hygienists. In addition to this the Dept. of Conservative dentistry and Endodontics also conducts a Post graduate certificate course in Endodontics in collaboration with Indira Gandhi National Open University IGNOU with the approval of Dental Council of India.

• Our academic excellence reflects in our results with nearly over 95 results in our undergraduate as well as postgraduate university examinations. The college has been consistently producing university toppers at both undergraduate as well as postgraduate levels for the past 5 years.

• Our students gain abundant clinical experience with our available clinical material being around 1500 to 2000 patients who are treated for their diverse dental problems in the various departments on a daily basis.

• In the academic year 2011 we will be starting Post graduate certificate course in Implantology and, Microdentistry as approved by Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik.
